Compare dark depth and visible texture

Preview black hair without losing the details

A black-hair preview should still show the shape and separation of strands. Use the natural-black examples to explore depth across straight hair, curls, coils and braids. A blue-black mullet is a related color reference; its cool sheen and cut are separate from a neutral black request.

Template cards can change the haircut and color together. To compare color while keeping your haircut, use a color-only prompt.

What to compare

  1. Keep dark detail visible

Look at the crown, ends and shadows. If the generated hair becomes one solid dark area, it is hard to judge texture or the cut. Ask for natural tonal variation rather than artificial gloss or an opaque black shape.

  2. Compare neutral black with a cool sheen

Blue-black is not the same as a visibly cobalt-blue color. Use a subtle blue-black reference only if you want a cool reflection in otherwise dark hair. Keep the lighting and hairstyle steady when comparing it with natural black.

  3. Review the hair boundary

A dark result can make edges around the forehead, ears and shoulders more noticeable. Check those areas for bleeding color, lost strands or invented details. The preview does not prove how a real dye will cover lighter hair or later be removed.

Describe your version

Natural black with strand detail

Change only the hair color to natural black with realistic strand separation and subtle highlights from the existing light. Preserve the current haircut, texture and length. Avoid an opaque flat-black shape or changes to the skin.
Use this prompt

Soft blue-black sheen

Change only the hair color to deep black with a very subtle cool blue sheen visible in the existing highlights. Keep the current cut, length and texture. Do not make the hair bright blue or change the scene lighting.

Questions before you try

Does trying black hair also change the texture?

A template can describe both texture and color. For a color comparison, use the prompt that asks to keep your current texture. Inspect the result because the AI may still reshape curls, strands or facial details.

Is blue-black the same as blue hair?

No. Blue-black keeps a predominantly dark base with a cool sheen, while a blue-hair request can produce a visibly saturated blue. The blue page is better for comparing that stronger color direction.

Can the preview tell me whether black dye is reversible?

No. It does not evaluate dye products, previous treatments or a removal process. It is a visual reference for depth and tone. Ask a colorist about the practical implications before making a physical color change.
